Avatars don't display correctly if not square on upload

What I did: Uploaded an avatar image that wasn't square. (I was too lazy to open Photoshop to resize it. Sorry.)
What I expected to happen: It would get cropped automatically, like Twitter does, or it would give me an error message.
What actually happened: It warped it. I now look like I'm made out of Play-doh. Oops.
(Off to open Photoshop and make it square like the instructions advise.)

Agreed, going to leave this OPEN and try to get to it after we push the next couple of versions of the site. It's totally expected for web sites to let you crop, or do the cropping for you these days.
