Can't access anonymously available resources anonymously through API
Reported by Mark Paschal | April 1st, 2011 @ 10:43 PM
Leapfrog can't use the API to generate items for MLKSHK posts
that were linked from Twitter. I can extract the sharekey from the
URL directly, which would allow me to use the
/api/sharedfile/<key>
endpoint to get the post
metadata. However, Leapfrog can't, as in that case it's not acting
in the context of a MLKSHK user, so there's no token to
authenticate to the API with.
As I have the URL, I could get the post metadata from OEmbed instead, but as no extra author info is provided in the OEmbed response, Leapfrog doesn't have the user ID and profile image URL to make a MLKSHK account for the author.
Would it be possible to authenticate anonymously to the API
somehow (perhaps identifying with the API application's consumer
key and secret), and have available the API resources that are
available anonymously to web viewers (namely posts through
/api/sharedfile/<key>
)?
